In this week’s Throwback, we travel back 27 years to July 1995 and the Grand National AMA Half-Mile from Oklahoma City to State Fair Speedway. This image by Dave Hoenig captures Chris Carr (#4) and Larry Pegram (#72) locked in a close battle during the second heat race of the night. Carr edged Pegram by a wheel length to finish second and move on to Main. Showing how tight the margins can be in flat track racing, Pegram missed this race, making the main race by inches. He then had a bad run in his semi-final due to a big tire that finished fifth, which caused him to miss the national all together. Carr finished fifth in the final that night, won by Scott Parker.
