Oklahoma City Thunder players to target in free agency

As part of our series detailing players the Charlotte Hornets should target in free agency, our focus is on Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder finished with a 24-58 record, earning them a 14th place finish in the Western Conference. OKC has a lot to look forward to though. With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey locked in the backyard of the future, the Thunder are one or two pieces away from making some noise in the West.

One of their masterpieces, Luguentz Dort, could be heading to free agency. Although his team option is expected to be picked up, he could command a handsome price during the free agent market. As a proven defender and capable scorer, Dort would make a great addition to Charlotte’s roster should he somehow enter free agency this season.

Also on club options, Isaiah Roby and Mike Muscala should return for another season with the Thunder. The greats are at opposite ends of their respective careers, and neither would necessarily fit in with the LaMelo ball, terry rozier, Miles Bridges– centered offense.

The only other players likely to hit the open free agent market would be Derrick’s favors and Melvin Frazier. Frazier is a restricted free agent and Favors has a player option worth $9.7 million. Frazier wouldn’t crack the rotation in Charlotte. On the other hand, Favors could provide a veteran presence in the locked room of a starving young Hornets team desperate for playoff experience.

If Favors declines his player option, I could see the Hornets reaching out to the big man. If Dort’s option is somehow denied, Charlotte should definitely try to snag the 3-and-D wing as soon as possible.

While the Thunder don’t have any unrestricted free agents this offseason, there are a few players the Hornets could watch on Oklahoma City‘s roster.
