Northeastern State University is expanding its supply chain operations and management training offerings to better prepare individuals to meet the ever-growing demand for well-trained and skilled workers in the industry in this area of ​​expertise.

“Supply chain management refers to the management of activities, processes and operations that facilitate the flow of goods, services, money and information that facilitate any trade,” said the coordinator of the NSU’s supply chain management program, Dr Nayyer Naseem.

He added that the importance and usefulness of this recession-proof and expanding field cannot be further emphasized in the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic to provide stores and people with the supplies they need. they need.

Naseem said as the Tulsa metropolitan area becomes a distribution hub, there is a huge demand for people trained in supply chain operations and management and institutional support to deliver short programs. term to help meet this demand. In addition, “many people who are already working in the field need an institutional qualification to advance in their careers,” said Naseem.

NSU’s new Supply Chain and Operations Management Certificate is a great option for people to take advantage of these growing opportunities and will help quickly meet the demands for manpower in this discipline in the state of. Oklahoma.

The certificate can be completed in about six months and there are no prerequisites for enrollment except for having a high school diploma.

The university’s commitment to providing experiential learning opportunities to its students will also be part of this program.

Naseem said conceptual learning in the classroom will be complemented by exchanges with industry professionals, discussions on business cases and field trips to local distribution facilities.

This certificate is offered as an ‘integrated’ program for the NSU Undergraduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management, for those who might decide to pursue the same path. In addition, the university also offers a graduate certificate in operations leadership.

In partnership with Premier Logistics, NSU’s supply chain management and environment, health and safety programs received a state grant of $ 100,000 to promote careers in these fields.

“Money should be spent to provide additional learning resources for students, such as setting up a Professional Certifications Resource Center (APICS), promoting professional memberships (ASCM / CSCMP), OSHA training , organizing facility visits and advanced training / certification of program teachers, ”said Naseem.

Initiated by the Dean of the College of Business & Technology, Dr Janet Buzzard, NSU also plans to host a national supply chain management conference at its Broken Arrow campus next summer in 2022, which will bring together people industry, government, professional organizations, state chambers, local institutions and students. This conference has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Naseem said.
