DURANT, Okla. (KTEN) – There will be plenty to do and see in the city of Magnolias this weekend.

All your favorites are back this year for the Oklahoma Magnolia Festivalwhich begins at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Choctaw Nation Event Center in Durant.

Of course, you can get your fix of traditional carnival food again this year, but you can also check out the local vendors inside.

There is one gourmet option that is of particular interest to Jeremy Spence of the Durant Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s these bacon-wrapped poppers,” he said. “So you look at the bacon-wrapped jalapeño…well, they took out the jalapeño and they put in these other really cool ingredients like the macaroni and cheese, the bacon-wrapped fudge brownie.”

Gather these little ones. Turtle racing will definitely be back this year in all its glory.

“They’re clapping, and then their parents are clapping, and then there’s strangers clapping…you just get this coliseum effect around all these little baby turtles…it’s so awesome,” Spence said.

The turtles will not be the only ones participating in the races. Parents can enter their toddlers in the diaper contest.

“We give them a goal to climb to and then that’s the first baby there,” Spence said. “What eventually happens is the babies get distracted and start playing with each other…but it’s hilarious to watch it all unfold.”

KTEN will be covering Magnolia Festival all weekend, and we’ll take a closer look at it at 6 a.m. Thursday on Good Morning Texoma.
