Free summer meals at Lemon Grove

The Lemon Grove School District serves free lunches to those 18 and under as part of its summer lunch program. Meals will be available through August 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at the Central District Kitchen, 3121 School Lane; 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays at Berry Park, 7071 Mount Vernon St.; and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at Lemon Grove Park, 8235 Mount Vernon St.

Santee 4th of July Decorating Contest

The 4th of July porch decorating contest is back in the town of Santee. Submit a photo of your home, porch or yard decorated in red, white and blue before noon on the 4th of July for a chance to win a picnic shelter rental at the Santee Park of your choice. Send photos to [email protected]

The credit union distributes scholarships

North Island Credit Union has awarded a scholarship to a local student as part of its 2022 college scholarship program, recognizing outstanding students for their school and community activities. The credit union offers 10 scholarships of $1,000 each each year to college students in San Diego and Riverside counties. In East County, Baymar Bongolan of Granite Hills High School in El Cajon received a scholarship. This year, the credit union scholarship program received 800 applications. Visit northisland.ccu.com.

Chamber hosts burger businesses

The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce invites the community to host Duke’s Old Fashioned Onion Burgers from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday at 5020 Baltimore Drive. Meet founder and owner Frank Schultz and his staff, who will be serving Oklahoma-style onion burgers in the newly renovated building. Duke’s also offers different types of fries – steak and blue cheese fries, taco fries, chili fries, Spanish fries, jalapeno fries and more. Free Movies This Summer at County Parks

San Diego County is offering free “2022 Summer Movies in the Park” for the 14th year. These parties are a way for everyone to enjoy the outdoors, the night sky, beautiful parks and cool movies. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, maybe a picnic basket, sit back and enjoy. Hours vary; check out the full schedule at www.summermoviesinthepark.com. Blood drives

The San Diego Blood Bank welcomes these blood donation opportunities. Donors will receive a San Diego Padres Blood Drive t-shirt while supplies last:

  • 1-7 p.m. Tuesday, Grossmont Center, 5500 Grossmont Center Drive, La Mesa, near movie theater
  • 9am-2pm Tuesday, Willowbrook Golf Course, 11905 Riverside Drive, Lakeside
